My name is Mike Eustace and I run the Living Therapy counselling service in Southampton. We all experience difficult periods in our lives and I believe that reaching out for help is a healthy, positive step. Whatever your reasons for coming here, you are welcome. My practice is informed by a wealth of experience, training, theoretical and practical knowledge, and a range of approaches including CBT. My principal aim is to accept you entirely as you are and try to understand your problems from your perspective. My experience is that this helps clients feel better about themselves and more able to make the changes they want. I hope to support you through difficult times and help you make beneficial changes in your life. I am willing to walk though darkness with you in search of light.
I am an accredited member of the British Association For Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and I hold a BA Hons (1st) in Humanistic Counselling, a diploma in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), a certificate in couples counselling and a certificate in supervision. I am a member of the Independent Supervisor’s Network (ISN), the Federation of Drug & Alcohol Practitioners (FDAP) and an associate member of the British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).
I have twenty years’ experience of helping people recover from addiction and I have been in practice as a therapist for more than ten years. I have a additional training in helping people recover from trauma and anxiety, and overcome relationship problems. I am experienced in somatic psychotherapy and I have a particular interest in counselling for men – addressing the barriers to counselling that men frequently experience.
One-to-One counselling gives you the opportunity to explore your difficulties in depth, in your own time. The broad spectrum of my training and experience helps me tailor my approach to your specific needs. I may be able help you find new ways of new ways of approaching life’s challenges and change situations in which you have been feeling stuck, perhaps for many years. Counselling can help with a wide range of problems, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties and addiction.
If you feel unhappy, unloved, misunderstood by your partner, having the same disagreements again and again, struggling to communicate, or wondering how much longer your relationship will last, then relationship counselling may help. I give you as a couple the opportunity to work through problems seem too difficult to tackle by yourselves. I offer independent insight – an outside perspective on your relationship, and practical tools to help each of you communicate more effectively.
I am a BACP accredited counsellor, I hold a Certificate in Supervision and I am in the process of gaining a Diploma in Supervision. I have supervised groups of support workers and counsellors in organisational settings and I have taught the Gestalt model of counselling at diploma level. I currently see counsellors for individual and group supervision in my private practice. My central philosophy is that supervision is about nurturing you. By helping you gain insight into your therapeutic relationships, I aim to support you in meeting the needs of your clients.
When your thoughts seem jumbled and confusing, and your problems seem impossible to resolve, somatic counselling may help you think clearly and discover how everything in your mind fits together. By focussing on the body, somatic counselling helps you relax, gain perspective on your thoughts and feelings and make sense out of confusion.
Addiction is powerful, baffling and often destructive to the addicted person and those closest to them. Sometimes it can seem as if there’s no way out, but as a specialist addiction counsellor I know there is light at the end of the tunnel. I know addiction from the inside out and no matter how bleak things may seem, there is a solution. You can liberate yourself from addiction.
Trauma counselling can help you slowly, safely and carefully heal the psychological wounds that your traumatic experiences have left you stuck with. By gently working with mind and body at a pace that feels safe for you, you may be able to break free of your trauma symptoms and take the power out of your traumatic memories.
